How often should my chimney be swept?

In the UK, the recommended frequency for chimney sweeping depends on the type of fuel you burn: 

Wood: Sweep at least twice a year 

Smokeless fuels: Sweep at least once a year 

Oil or gas: Sweep at least once a year 

Coal: Sweep at least twice a year 

You should have your chimney swept more often if you use your fireplace regularly.

What does a Chimney Sweep include?

  • Visual Inspection of the appliance and immediate surrounding area
  • Traditional brush or modern rotary sweep performed in accordance with industry standards, including where possible a visual confirmation of brush at chimney exit
  • A smoke check to ensure appliance is drawing correctly
  • An Insurance approved NACS Sweep Certificate issued on succesful completion
